Gazed and Bemused: Hazy Sounds from the Meanijn Underground
Gazed and Bemused is a showcase compilation of 12 bands pumping new life into Brisbane, Australia’s shoegaze vein.
A streak of bemusement certainly runs through the ‘hazy sounds of the Meanijn underground’ with tunes like “Landlocked” by Relay Tapes and “Looking Glass” by Ancient Channels.
Even so, a bit of pop flickers through in Ghost Mutt’s “Skinks” and there’s something a little gothy about “Second Soul” by Locust Revival. Instrumental “(Head Alone)” by blue diner. could easily find a home on the Lost in Translation soundtrack. In short, there’s something for every shoegaze-loving scenester on Gazed and Bemused.
The Gazed and Bemused compilation is being released by 4000 Records, an artist-led label at the heart of Brisbane’s independent music scene. Characteristic of its collaborative and community-centric nature, 4000 Records chose to release Gazed and Bemused to community radio outlets first. The super-limited vinyl will then be available at a local launch party and in select record stores in early October. Gazed and Bemused will be available via Bandcamp as of October 23. Streaming platforms will get Gazed and Bemused on October 31.
