The Finnish indie four-piece has plans to release their second album in 2025, but while you’re waiting for the future, they’ve released “Cat State” - a catchy, drum-forward tune with a delicate and winding vocal melody that quickly hooks you. Guitars lend a simple dream pop flow up to the chorus where female vocals are countered with male vocals, delivering all the emosh. “It’s a long way up, when you’re crawling on the ground. Small fractures of mind, that will haunt us ’till the end”.
The band notes that the song refers to the Schrödinger’s cat, an experiment attempts to explain the ability to be in multiple states at the same time - or at least until measured.
“The single deals with human feelings about whether they are alive, dead, or in an intermediate state waiting for the future.”
Mumrunner’s forthcoming album is expected in 2025 on Automatic Music, home of Resplandor, Life on Venus and Blankenberge. You can listen to “Cat State” on Bandcamp and other streaming platforms.
