Maud Anyways
Maud Anyways is the solo project of Maud Platiau-Bourret of France. Her album Impermanent Lane was released by Shore Dive Records in September 2023. Maud composed all songs on the album, additional guitars and drums were contributed by supporting musicians.
Maud's song "Absurd" was included in episode 13 of _____ mood. The heavy undertow of the bass and Maud's coy vocals fit nicely with the episode which features indie pop songs with bad ass basslines.
"The song is about how life can be absurd when the one you love doesn't love you in return," said Maud. "and how you will keep your promises towards that person no matter what because your love is and will always be strong."
Although Maud is a bass player herself, the bass in the song "Absurd" was performed by Casper Iskov.
"Casper is a very talented young artist from Denmark. He also has a band called Ethics – I am sure you will love it!" Maud told me. "He also did the mixing and mastering."
She is correct - I do love it. Anyone who appreciates big 90s pop with nods to Oasis and Matthew Sweet will dig Ethics too.
I asked Maud if she had any advice for independent musicians looking to work with a label and what it has been like to work with Shore Dive Records.
"Shore Dive is an awesome label, they let me absolutely free to choose the style and what I wanted to be on the LP," Maud told me. "That's not always the case. I have friends who are on labels which don’t let them free and I think it’s not good at all to trap artists in a specific style.. it’s not good for the creativity, which is the point of doing music."
The advice? "To really prepare promotion."
Some of Maud's older songs can be heard and seen on her Bandcamp and YouTube channels. Check out the video for "Boil" – it's got another bad-ass bassline!
