Chapterhouse White House Demos
The wicked wah-wah wig-out that you needed for your Friday freak-out is here. It’s the Chapterhouse White House Demos, released today on Sonic Cathedral.
“Ecstasy” kicks off the EP, an 8-minute funky drummer wah-wah wig out version that suddenly drops to a gritty Riders On the Storm-esque crawl. The demo of “Guilt” sounds a bit like if RIDE were to be tortured by Thurston Moore. “Die Die Die” sounds like Batman’s psychedelic surf theme. My personal favourite is the previously unreleased “See That Girl” with its super simple, super cool vocals and big drums enclosing even the furthest unfurling wah-waaaaahs. That ‘waaatch’ sandwiched between ‘see that girl’ and ‘watch that girl’ » love « hear it at 3:36 in the super cool video done by Chris “Innerstrings” Tomsett below.
I’m enamoured with the cool and energy of the time that comes through in this four-song EP. I already had a soft spot for 1989, but as Chapterhouse guitarist and vocalist Stephen Patman so accurately says, “It is interesting to hear how much ‘teen spirit’ is on these recordings.”
Now go and treat yourself to an extra 27-minutes of lunch break with the White House Demos so you can start the weekend right. On Sunday, 11 May you can get your Qs A’d and your EP inked at the Q&A / DJ set + signing hosted by Rough Trade East in London. Or get a special cassette version of the EP and have Stephen sign your t-shirt at the Indie Label Market on Saturday, 10 May in London.
Have a great weekend!
